Day 1 – Heading out to Grand Cayman

Everyone was so excited to get out of town and get their toes into some Caribbean sand. The night prior was somewhat restless, due to all the anticipation. No alarm was needed to get me up this morning. Bright eyed and bushy-tailed, I rolled out of bed a little after 5:30am. I managed to get myself all together and finish up some last minute packing before waking the rest of the house around 8:30am.

We were all famished and starting to get a bit hangry. Mom suggested we leave a little earlier and eat at 1897, a great little restaurant at the airport. So the clan made our way to the airport around 11am and powered down some good eats before getting in the plane.

Landed in George Town around 4:20pm local time, an hour behind EST. Made it through customs and got our rental car to start the trek of crossing the island. The island is only 20 miles wide, so it didn’t take too long to get to our rental. On leaving the rental place we entered the address for Siri to assist. She was not helpful, as it did not take us to the correct place. Strangely enough, neither did Google. Dad and Mom had to pull out the old trusty gut feel and read the road signs. It seems the old vintage Schiffers app got us right to the front door.

Before coming to the house, we stopped at a little restaurant along the way called the South Coast Grill. We sat on the patio, which faced the ocean. Small dive, but the food was awesome! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Olivia had the oxtail, Anna had both a conch salad and wings, LT had a quesadilla and I had a spice rubbed Asian Grouper. I’ll just say after tasting everyone’s meal, the Grouper was the best!

This meal was also the first in which Olivia was able to legally buy a drink. The drinking age in Grand Cayman is 18. Let me just say, she whipped out her ID and was ready to show the waitress here ID with pride. Wouldn’t you know it, when you hope they ask, they don’t! She smiled from cheek to cheek!!

The rental house we are staying at is a bit much. It is a four story home with all kinds of rooms. They have broken the house up into two sections. The bottom floor is its own living area and the upper three floors are the main house. It definitely feels like a beach house with all the nautical themes and colors. It is very spacious and I know we are going to totally enjoy the place. We have our own private beach, along with two kayaks and are ready to start exploring it all in the morning.

Anna and Olivia went to the store around 7pm to pick up some provisions, while LT and I head out on the water to try our luck on the local sea-life. LT surf fished and snagged a massive puffer fish not but five minutes into fishing. The reef is in eye’s view and both he and I are excited to paddle out there in the morning. We know it is brimming with an abundance of dinner! --- and lunch!
