Left at 4:20am this morning for Miami. The intention was to
leave much earlier, but around 7pm on Thursday I received a call from Claudia
telling me Opa was unresponsive. I rushed over to Dad’s to see how he was
doing. He was in fact unresponsive and dripped in sweat. He had apparently
gotten way too much CO2 build up. Off to the hospital and luckily later in the
am he made a good recovery.
On the road we went and headed towards the sunny state. The
drive was pretty uneventful and we pulled into the Hilton Cabana Miami Beach a
little before 5pm. It rained a bit before we got into Miami and upon our
arrival it ended up stopping. Got our digs out of the Yukon and checked in.
Headed to the bar for some quick refreshments and a little reprieve from the
road.
The kids were chilling upstairs in the room, watching TV and
texting on their phones. Olivia had been looking for some good places to eat
and we determined Hoshi Sushi would be our choice this evening. The place was
just a little under a mile from the hotel, so we opted to walk there. After a
little jaunt we got to our table and mauwed down sushi and appetizers. The
Schiffers did not make this a long meal as we were all wanted to walk around a
bit before it got too late. I got an Uber to take us to Lincoln Road, a road of
shops and restaurants. We all went into a few and finally got LT some Kappa
gear at LuLu.
After a visit to the National Geographic’s Studio store,
which had paintings and photographs that were absolutely amazing, we headed
right next door to Hagen Daaz. All of us grab a cone, except for Anna. Her and
I grabbed a gelato at D4. I don’t remember what she got, but I had an amazing
Nutella gelato. It was super yummy! After the sugar fest we grabbed another
Uber and headed back to the hotel. The whole clan was pretty tired and managed
to get into bed a little after 11pm.
