Near the house is a non-profit conservative park called
Crane Point Hammock which we planned to go visit today before our dive. I woke
this morning around 6:30am and went for a little run. I thought I’d get out of
the house to avoid from making too much noise. When I came back Anna and Nana
were up and having a cup of coffee. I joined them for a bit before heading upstairs
to rustle the troops. The goal was to be at the park around 9:30am as we had a
dive trip at 1pm.
We all piled in the car and headed to the park. Not but a
quarter mile away, we could have walked but decided to take the car in case we
need to leave quickly. The park was named after the Cranes, a wealthy family
from Maryland, who purchased the property back in the 1950’s. It is a 63 acre
park with wildlife trails throughout.
All of us walked the trails for about an hour before
heading back to the front entrance where we scheduled a tram (golf cart)
private tour ride of the place. Jimmy Dean was our tour guide and did a
fantastic job. He knew the place and area inside and out and really educated us
on the region. As many times as I have come down to the keys I never knew this
conservation park was here located amongst the touristic sprawl.
Jimmy knew we had a dive trip planned so he made sure we wouldn’t
run too late. He got us back to the museum and front entrance a little after
noon time. Back in the car we went to just stop quickly back at the house for a
wardrobe change and off to Tildens.
