Day 6 - Wai'anapanapa State Park

After experiencing an amazing colorful sunrise this morning, I went back to the room to find Anna up and having a cup of coffee. Anna suggested we go for a walk around to check out the grounds. It was still quiet and peaceful on the grounds as most everyone was still asleep. Our goal was to head to the lobby and get a cup of java and inquire about some SUP (stand-up paddle board) classes they were offering for the kids. Struck out on both, but no worries – there is plenty to do!

Headed back to the room to wake up the kids and make our way to Wai’anapanapa State Park. Before getting too motivated, we needed to make sure we had enough energy to manage all the exploring. So what better way than to fill our bellies down by Hana Bay at Barefoot CafĂ©. The food was on point!! LT and I hammered down some breakfast sandwiches (portuguese sausage, sunny side up eggs, cheese & tomato), Anna had a SPAM Ramen bowl and Olivia had some home fries.

Seeing that everyone was now satisfied, we were off to the park. Places like this are just too rare. The park was absolutely magical. The beach was a black sand beach from all the lava rock. It was coved and somewhat protected. The tops of the lava rock cliffs were covered in numerous types of vegetation and almost looked like it was out of the Jurassic Park movie.

Anna and I walked the paths, while the kids stayed on the beach. Thomas got in the water and braved the waves and current for a bit. Olivia, being the wiser, stayed on the beach and collected some sun rays.
