Day 10 – Leaving the Peace Lodge

Leaving today was not what anyone wanted, but knowing we were going to the Springs resort made the pain a little less. Ashley was heading home today. When we woke up this morning we all tighten up and packed. After Anna and I visited the aviary earlier this morning, we all met for breakfast and then walked the Fern trail one last time. It was around 10am when we got done walking and we headed back to the restaurant for a round of drinks before heading out. Ashley and I parted ways at 11am as we waved him off.

The Hyundai H1 took a left out of the parking lot towards San Miguel. We were 2 hours away, but only managed to go five minutes before pulling over and jumping out of the car to go explore a waterfall. Back in the car and we were on the descent. It was the same way Ashley and I rode our bikes the other day. It was straight down the mountain out of the rainforest. We drove for about an hour again before stopping at Mi Rancho for lunch. The meal was one of the best we had and was no more than $20 with a few rounds of Imperials and drinks. LT has been taking to the blood marys down here.

We eventually made it to The Springs Resort a little before 3pm. With no time to waste, we booked a night tour and then headed to our room to drop off our things. We changed into our bathing suits and headed back to the main building to enjoy the pools. I packed some clothes so we wouldn’t have to come back to the room later before our night walk.

The pools were amazing, just as we remembered. Thomas and Olivia quickly hit what had to be the hottest spring, while Anna and I got into one a little bit more tamed. Next, we hit the pool bar and didn’t leave it until we needed to get ready for our walk. It was a wonderful time!

The night tour was phenomenal! Jonathan was the guide and he was surely the Crocodile Dundee of the rainforest. We saw so many things. Olivia’s favorite was the bioluminescence fungi. The tour lasted well over an hour and we saw plenty of frog and toad species. Anna spotted a small poisonous tree snake, Thomas spotted too many things to count, but one was a white-bellied jungle rat – a cute little fellow. We saw a tail of a Motmot, a rare bird.

After the tour, we hit the restaurant for a quick bite to eat, and then our heads hit the pillows.
