Day 5 – Leaving Arenal – Onto Cabuya

WOD: Cena = “Breakfast”

I am going to miss their breakfast. Delicious, fresh, hot, ready and prepared right at 7am. Cups ready to receive the ritual morning Arenal coffee with hot leche….no more. Now, we have the delight of slaving over the hot stove, socking the coffee, and hoping someone starts making breakfast.

Arenal was in our rear view mirror at 9am this morning. It was actually starting out to be the most beautiful and clearest day there we have had. We took highway 142, to 720 and then onto CA-1. CA-1 is one of the main highways in Costa Rica. I found out today the CA actually stands for California. Odd…I know. We drove back the same way to San Ramon which took about 3 hours. Only this time it was much more beautiful since we could actually see the landscape. On the ride up it was either so foggy that you could not see 30 feet in front of you or it was complete dark. No light population out here.

Got to Puntarenas right at 1:50 just in time to catch the 2pm ferry. How lucky were we? If we would have missed the ferry the next one would not have arrived until 5pm. That would have made the ride into Cabuya….need I say sucky!!! The last 7km to our place is on gravel..no mud..no mud and pot holes….at the edge of the earth. WOW!! We were all giddy with excitement rolling into a town with maybe a population of 40.

15km prior to getting to our new CASA, we stopped at the local Super (Supermarket) and filled our shopping carts with local pollo (chicken), beef, eggs, leche (milk), and vegetables galore. No junk food in this basket, except for maybe the Tostilla (which ended up being stale). Oh yeah..forgot…also picked up some well need cerveza (beer).

After checking out our new digs and emptying the non-suspension Toyota RAV-4, Anna made the most fantastic Pollo with corn and a wonderful salad. Just relaxed and took it all in….Ready to go exploring in the morning.
